Our bodies can be considered as one large chemistry set with multiple biological processes all working in unison and interacting with one another. How well these chemical reactions work depends on three things

  1. our genetics which dictates what reactions work well and which dont
  2. our environment which influences which biochemical pathways are prioritised. If we perceive stress our fight or flight pathways take precedence
  3. the food we eat – if we dont eat the things we need to fuel the chemical reactions well the body has to compromise by ‘stealing’ these things from elsewhere in the body or by just not performing that particular function

With a nutritional therapy assessment we look at what functions are working well and what are not using functional medicine as a basis. And what is Functional Medicine? Well, The Institute of Functional Medicine says it can be used to ‘determine how and why illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual’.

What is Nutritional Therapy?

Quite simply, it is looking at the symptoms you have, the food you eat and correlating the two to determine what your body needs to help optimise your health.

We are all different, our guts are as unique as our hair and eye colour so, just because one of us is okay to eat something, doesn’t mean that we all can.

We need to work out what our body needs more of or less of than other people. And the way to do that? An assessment with a qualified Food Physio™ nutritional therapist who would examine your symptoms and assess the nutrients which you are most likely deficient in. The therapist will then work to support your body by giving it the right food and maybe suggesting supplements to enhance your body’s nutrient levels.

And here at The Food Physio we specialise in helping people in pain whether that's digestive pain, pain from inflammatory conditions, muscle or joint pain. It's a natural choice for us with our years of expertise in physiotherapy and the deeper understanding that gives us. We can give full dietary, exercise and lifestyle advice to help you address your symptoms. After all, it's not just our food intake that influences how well we are.
