Strawberry Smoothie
If you fancy a quick healthy breakfast alternative then look no further, this strawberry smoothie will hit the mark!
Ingredients – 2 persons
- 1 large banana
- 2 handfuls of frozen strawberries – buy the pre frozen rather than freezing fresh ones as they have a more intense flavour. You could also use raspberries or a combination of both
- 2 handfuls oats
- 3/4 pint of almond milk
- 1/2 pint of water
- 2 heaped tablespoons of ground linseed
- 1 heaped tablespoons of pea protein (optional)
Method
- Place everything in a blender and whizz it together
- Enjoy!
It takes about 5 minutes to make and is a great alternative to a sugary bowl of cereal. As long as you use the linseed and pea protein this will keep you full till lunch and avoid any spikes in blood sugar levels with the consequent crashes which make us reach for the snacks in the vending machine! If you don’t fancy the pea protein then you can add ground almonds as an alternative.
Banana is fast release energy but when combined with the protein of the linseed and pea protein (or almonds) this energy release is slower and more sustained. Use almond milk instead of cow’s milk to make it diary free thus avoiding all the hormones that you find in cow’s milk products.
If it’s too runny or too thick for you add more or less fluid to get it to the right consistency. And if you’ve added linseed don’t wait too long to drink it as they absorb excess liquid so will thicken it up the longer you leave it.
A truly healthy way to start the day!
